My name is Lorraina Groves and it is my joy to be of service to my community. Do you know what a death doula is? They are a person who assists in the dying process. Educating families on death through recognizing its natural beauty. A death doula helps individuals plan for the end-of-life process & manages some of the duties that typically fall on families.
I have received 2 certifications, I have gone to school, Studied, attended webinars and have been taking classes when my schedule has allowed me to.
With that being said I am a certified death doula.
What is a death doula?
An End-of-Life Doula role is to accompany the dying person and their loved ones through the final months, weeks and days of life. I provide support, resources, education and friendship. This process can be only for a day or maybe even a year.
I as well support the healthy and the living. I can assist with End of life needs that we do not think about. Tomorrow isn’t promised, meaning none of us know when death will happen, but we all do it. I just would like you to take a moment and sit with it. Do you have things prepared? Living trust, Advance Care Directives? What does the end of your life plan look like? Is it a party? Is it somber? Maybe a paddle out? A camping trip in your honor?
I ask you these things because if your loved ones do not know. We cannot honor you the way you want. I believe everyone should have a good death.
Like many of us I have been around death my entire life. What I have found death does not bother me, I embrace it. Everyone deserves to have a good death, meaning everyone’s final wishes should be honored.
I believe that no one should die alone. I am a strong advocate for caretakers and family members to not do it alone.
Listen…. Society doesn’t want us to talk about it. In other cultures death is beautiful and sometimes a 3 day/ week celebration! Families used to take care of their dying. We need to get back to these times! Approximately 80% of people would prefer to die at home, if possible. Only 20% actually die at home.
All of us have been around a lot of death in the last year or recently. A quote from a friend recently posted “Death is something that isn’t really talked about. We all know it’s inevitable but just kind of push it aside because it’s supposed to be down the road.” It could have not been said better, They were 100% right!!!!
I believe in a death positive movement. I am here to help, answer questions and get you resources and EDUCATE!
I offer assistance in the following:
- Post and Pre Death Arrangements
- Advance Care Directives & Living Trust
- Research & Resources
- Vigils, Celebrations of Life, Living wakes & home funerals
- Grief Support
*I also have years of experience working with Dementia & Alzheimer’s
These are just a few things I do, I am well versed all around death. If something is not listed please contact me more than likely I do it, or have the resource.
**Side note: Get it done! It won’t be fair to your children or loved ones to have to figure out! It’s hard enough to deal with death why add to the stress! (my personal experience)
